Senior Accounting

Location: Houston, TX – Remote
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday
Shift: Day Shift
Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hours per Week: 40 Hours

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Accounting professional to support general ledger and system accounting functions. This position will be responsible for ensuring accounting records are accurate, complete, properly recorded, and reconciled on a timely basis.

The role will focus heavily on account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, financial reporting support, and variance analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger accounting experience and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies across multiple accounting systems and accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record and review accounting transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries in accordance with accounting policies.
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Ensure revenues, expenses, accruals, and other transactions are recorded in the appropriate accounting period.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Reconcile various accounts, including:
    • Bank accounts
    • General ledger accounts
    • Payroll accounts
    • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
    • Other accounting subsystems
  • Research and resolve reconciliation differences and outstanding items.
  • Perform variance analysis by comparing actual financial results against budgets, forecasts, or expected results.
  • Identify unusual fluctuations and provide explanations for significant variances.
  • Review accounting data for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Assist with maintaining the integrity of financial data within accounting and ERP systems.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve accounting discrepancies and obtain supporting documentation.
  • Support audit requests and provide appropriate accounting documentation when required.
  • Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong experience in General Ledger (GL) accounting.
  • Hands-on experience with account reconciliations is highly important.
  • Experience with month-end close processes.
  • Strong understanding of journal entries and accounting transactions.
  • Experience performing variance analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Hospital or healthcare accounting experience.
  • Physician accounting experience.
  • Experience with healthcare-related revenue and expenses.
  • Experience working with healthcare ERP/accounting systems.
  • Experience with Infor Lawson or similar ERP/accounting systems.
  • Experience working with multiple accounting subsystems or integrated financial systems.
