Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks | Possible Extension

Compensation

• Local Rate: $42–$50/hour, depending on experience
• Travel Rate: $1,700–$1,950/week, depending on experience

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Radiation Therapist to provide therapeutic radiation treatments in accordance with prescriptions and treatment plans established by Radiation Oncologists. The Radiation Therapist will be responsible for accurate patient setup, treatment delivery, treatment verification, equipment safety checks, documentation, and patient support throughout the treatment process.

The ideal candidate will have clinical experience in therapeutic radiation therapy and hands-on experience with Varian TrueBeam technology and MOSAIQ EMR.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver therapeutic radiation treatments according to the Radiation Oncologist's prescription and treatment instructions.
• Review radiation prescriptions for accuracy and identify potential dosage, mathematical, or technical discrepancies.
• Accurately position and set up patients for radiation treatment.
• Prepare treatment rooms, equipment, immobilization devices, field parameters, and beam-shaping accessories.
• Explain treatment procedures and positioning requirements to patients.
• Provide reassurance and emotional support to patients while maintaining patient privacy and dignity.
• Maintain continuous visual and audible communication with patients during treatment.
• Acquire and interpret portal/verification images to confirm treatment accuracy.
• Ensure treatment images are reviewed and approved by the appropriate Radiation Oncologist.
• Verify and localize treatment areas using radiographic film or electronic imaging systems.
• Administer prescribed radiation treatments and maintain accurate daily treatment records.
• Perform simple dose calculations using appropriate computer software.
• Conduct chart checks and report discrepancies to the appropriate clinical staff.
• Perform required daily quality assurance (QA) and safety checks on treatment machines and simulators.
• Record required equipment and safety data in accordance with applicable regulations and facility procedures.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify treatment-unit malfunctions.
• Report equipment defects, deficiencies, or malfunctions to the Senior/Chief Therapist and Medical Physics team.
• Maintain treatment equipment in safe and proper working condition.
• Understand the proper use of wedges, compensating filters, shielding, and other treatment accessories.
• Create and adjust immobilization devices and shielding blocks as required.
• Report unusual or adverse patient reactions to the appropriate clinical staff.
• Keep treatment rooms clean, organized, and adequately stocked with supplies.
• Assist with chart checks, scheduling, chart rounds, and other departmental activities as assigned.
• Participate in patient-treatment discussions, in-service training, and departmental education.
• Assist with the instruction and evaluation of student radiation therapists when assigned.
• Keep patients informed regarding treatment delays and provide appropriate updates.
• Maintain professional conduct and adhere to departmental safety and patient-care standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in therapeutic radiation therapy.
• Hands-on experience with Varian TrueBeam technology highly preferred/required.
• Experience with MOSAIQ EMR.
• Strong understanding of radiation treatment procedures, patient positioning, and treatment verification.
• Knowledge of radiation safety and quality assurance procedures.
• Ability to identify treatment equipment malfunctions and follow appropriate escalation procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Senior Therapists, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.

Education

• Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiation Therapy program/school.
