Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a 9-week travel contract in a Medical-Surgical setting. The position involves providing nursing care to patients in a 14-bed overflow unit that supports emergency department boarders. Patient assignments may include Medical-Surgical and Telemetry patients based on unit needs.

The ideal candidate will have an active New York LPN license, current BLS certification, and experience with electronic medical records, medication administration, and general patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in a 14-bed overflow unit supporting emergency department boarders.
• Care for Medical-Surgical and Telemetry patients according to unit requirements.
• Administer prescribed medications through oral, intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous, and other authorized routes.
• Perform blood glucose monitoring, feeding-tube care, Foley catheter insertion, and oxygen administration.
• Assist patients with ambulation, bathing, oral care, and other activities of daily living.
• Monitor vital signs and promptly report changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse or physician.
• Follow infection control guidelines, isolation precautions, and established patient handoff procedures.
• Float to other Medical-Surgical patient-care areas as required by staffing and patient-care needs.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation and follow established nursing protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Active New York Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. Pending licenses are not accepted.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Previous experience using Epic electronic medical records (EMR).
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant nursing experience.
• Experience in patient care, medication administration, vital signs monitoring, and clinical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience.
• Previous charge nurse experience.

Schedule & Assignment Requirements

• Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
• Four 12-hour shifts per week.
• Every other weekend is required.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
• Floating to other units is required based on staffing and patient-care needs.
• On-call duties may be required depending on staffing needs.
• All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted before signing the assignment agreement. Additional requests after signing cannot be accommodated.
• LPNs may not assume assignments or serve as a resource in GIOF or Medical-Surgical units and may be utilized as Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), as permitted by applicable policies and scope of practice.
