Mental Therapy Aide

Location: Syracuse, NY
Contract: 18 Weeks
Schedule: Day, Evening, or Night Shifts | Mix of 8- and 12-Hour Shifts

Weekend Requirement: Weekend coverage required; every other weekend and some holidays required

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mental Therapy Aide to support patient care in an acute-care behavioral health setting. The ideal candidate will have recent experience working in an acute-care or hospital environment and strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The Mental Therapy Aide will assist with patient care activities, maintain a safe and supportive environment, and work collaboratively with the clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct support and assistance to patients in a behavioral health setting.
• Assist with daily patient-care activities and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
• Monitor and document patient observations as required.
• Assist clinical staff with patient needs and assigned care activities.
• Support patients across different age groups, including adult, child, and adolescent populations.
• Follow established hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety standards.
• Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
• Assist with maintaining clean, organized, and safe patient-care areas.
• Work day, evening, or night shifts as assigned.
• Work weekends and designated holidays as required.
• Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Required Education

• High School Diploma or GED.

Required Certifications

• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Ability to maintain and recertify BLS as required.

Required Skills & Experience

• Current New York State registration, as applicable to the role.
• Minimum 1.5 years of recent experience within the past 2 years in an acute-care facility of similar size and acuity.
• 2 years of experience in the field required.
• Experience in a hospital of equal or greater size/acuity or a trauma center preferred for travelers.
• Level I Trauma Center experience highly desired.
• EPIC EMR experience highly desired.
• Inpatient experience working with adult, child, and adolescent patients.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong teamwork, organization, and patient-care skills.
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
